However, Declan Rice was having none of it as he conjured up a masterclass display, first canceling out Fernandes’ opener with a clinical finish before making a heroic goal-line clearance to deny Rasmus Højlund a late winner.

Arteta remained defiant in his post-match press conference, refusing to throw in the towel for Arsenal's title chase despite the seemingly insurmountable 15-point gap between the Gunners and Liverpool at the top of the table. Arteta was frustrated. “We lacked a little bit in the last 15 to 20 metres,” he said. “The game is clearly for us, but we didn’t show enough purpose and direction.”

Arteta knows this. “It’s not just about the number nine,” he said. “Everyone has to take responsibility, especially when we attack against so much density.” 

As this hard-fought draw against Manchester United further highlights, Arsenal's glittering season has one glaring flaw that cannot be ignored: their struggle to break down teams that sit deep and frustrate. This pattern has emerged time and again, threatening to derail the Gunners' lofty ambitions.
