Trent Alexander-Arnold has reportedly rejected Liverpool's latest contract extension offer, increasing the likelihood of a move to Real Madrid. Multiple sources indicate that the English defender's commitment to Real Madrid is strong, and a deal is "99% complete".
Real Madrid has been a long-time admirer of Alexander-Arnold, viewing him as a potential long-term replacement for Dani Carvajal. The Spanish giants even attempted to sign him in January, but Liverpool rejected the bid. With Alexander-Arnold's contract expiring at the end of the season, he is now free to negotiate with foreign clubs.
The futures of two other key Liverpool players, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, are also uncertain. Like Alexander-Arnold, their contracts expire at the end of the current season. Liverpool remains optimistic about renewing contracts with both players, and it's understood that both Salah and Van Dijk's number one choice is to stay at Anfield. However, there has been little progress in negotiations, and their long-term futures with the club remain unresolved.
A move to Real Madrid would see Alexander-Arnold join his friend Jude Bellingham.
If Alexander-Arnold joins Real Madrid, he will face competition from Carvajal for playing time. However, Real Madrid sees him as the long-term successor. Liverpool, on the other hand, will have to consider potential replacements for not just Alexander-Arnold, but possibly Van Dijk and Salah as well.
